Velda Selma Searle Jensen, 91, formerly of Idaho Falls, died Sunday, May 20, 2012 in Ogden, Utah surrounded by her children and a granddaughter.
She was born Apr. 3, 1921, in Teton City, Idaho to Albert Heaton Searle and Lettie Stewart and was the third of four children. She grew up in the Teton area and married Deward Charles Jensen on October 15, 1940 in Rigby, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Velda was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and Deward were active in scouting for many years. She loved to crochet and taught her daughters and granddaughters the skill. She also enjoyed square dancing with Deward. In their later years, Deward and Velda enjoyed travelling, including a trip up the AlCan Highway to see Alaska. They also put many miles on their motor home, “Nowhere Special”.
She is survived by her sons, Ronney Kay (Kay) Jensen, of Wichita Falls, Texas and Darrell Albert (Jean) Jensen of Idaho Falls, and daughters Carol Lee (Steve) Hoopes and Kathie Foster, of Ogden, Utah, 11 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Deward, her brothers Leland and Orin Searle, and her sister Ina Foster.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 26, 2012, at the Idaho Falls East Stake Center, 1860 Kearney St., Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Teton Newdale Cemetery, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
