Betty Ruth Madsen, 83, of Rigby, died at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center Sunday, May 15, 2005 from complications following a stroke. Betty was born November 4, 1921 in Idaho Falls to Charles Ira and Nellie Nebeker Lindsay. She grew up in the New Sweden area and attended Eagle Rock Elementary. The family moved to Rigby where she finished her education and graduated from Rigby High School. On August 17, 1941 she married Robert E. Madsen in Rigby, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. Betty was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in several callings and organizations. She was an active member of the ESA Sorority (Epsilon Sigma Alpha) for 47 years, serving in many capacities. She worked for 26 years in various civil service positions and was last employed as the auditor for the Idaho Falls Post Office. She had a passion for cooking, for her family and others, was a gracious hostess and an excellent seamstress, making dozens of quilts for family, friends and various organizations and was an avid Jazz fan. She is survived by her husband Robert E. Madsen of Rigby, Daughters: Nancy Lee (Duane) Burton of Syracuse, Utah, Georgia Smith of Idaho Falls and Margo Anne (Bryan) Dansie of Rigby. Sisters: Ella (Don) Morgan, Norma (Arlo) Trost and Myrt (Kenneth) Ludlow all of Idaho Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jim Lindsay, Ira “Bud” Lindsay and Ray Lindsay, Sisters Emma Rowan, Faye Durham and Zella Lindsay who died in infancy. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. in the Rigby Stake Center, 382 West 1st North in Rigby, with Bishop Brad Anderson Officiating. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel and on Wednesday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Stake Center. Interment will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel.
