Abraham Whittaker

Abraham Whittaker, 82, of Idaho Falls, died August 18, 2005 at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was born September 29, 1922 in Archer, Idaho, to Henry Whittaker and Bessie Pauline Ginn Whittaker. The second delivered of twins and the seventh of fourteen children, 10 boys and 4 girls. He grew up in and around Archer and Rexburg. Leaving home at a young age, he held various odd jobs and gained an education of common sense and hard knocks. He served as a Gunners Mate in the U.S. Navy, during World War II. After a short courtship, he married his wife, Laura Wylda Getsinger on November 1, 1947. They spent their honeymoon snowed in on a dry farm in the Canyon Creek area. He worked on various farms in the Idaho Falls area. In his later years he worked at potato processing plants, farm equipment sales and repair, and was the attendant of the B Street Parking Lot, where he met a wide variety of people and made some great friends. He enjoyed fishing, camping, working outside, and time to contemplate his thoughts. Survivors include his wife, Laura of Idaho Falls, daughter Laura Pauline Whittaker of Idaho Falls, sons, Miles S. Whittaker of Idaho Falls, Abraham J. (Sandra) Whittaker of Sandy, Utah, grandchildren, Adam C (Emme) Whittaker, and Caitlin T. Whittaker of Sandy, Utah. Two sisters, Sarah Perham of Rexburg, and Mary Bushman of Provo, Utah. Three brothers George (Tessie) Whittaker, and Nephi Whittaker of Idaho Falls, and Brigham Whittaker of Rexburg. Graveside service will be held on Monday, August 22, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Sunday, August 21, 2005 at the Eckersell Memorial Chapel from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. and prior to the services on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Services are under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
