Aceil Leon Oswald, age 87, passed away on October 16, 2025, in Morelia, Mexico.
Leon was born on August 3, 1938, right at the end of the Great Depression. He was raised by his parents Vic and Ora Oswald in Grant, Idaho, just north of Idaho Falls. While in high school, Leon excelled in the Boy Scouts of America and the FFA, earning many awards and trophies for his efforts. After graduating from high school, he attended Ricks College, University of Utah, and Utah State University.
While at Ricks College, Leon met Trenna Rhodehouse. They were married in 1961, and together they raised five children. They farmed and had a dairy until 1964, when Leon attended USU to become a Spanish teacher. He taught Spanish in California for four years prior to completing a Master's Degree in Monterey, Mexico. Leon taught high School Spanish in California, Utah, and Nevada for over forty years. He was loved by all of his students and passed on his love of Spanish and Mexican culture to many of them. Leon was also a tour guide, guiding friends, students, and family members on tours all over Mexico and parts of Europe for over forty years.
Leon served faithfully in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was also Sexton over the Trenton Cemetery and highly involved in Church sports.
Leon married Laura Fraga in 2005, and they retired together in Morelia, Mexico.
The list of things Leon was passionate about is almost endless: He loved Arabian horses, dogs, family reunions, tacos, working out, old country music, playing sports, teaching Spanish, camping, sandy beaches, scuba diving, and more. But what he loved most was his family, especially his grandkids.
After eighty-seven very wonderful, busy, exciting years, Leon passed away on October 16, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Ora Randall Oswald, by his brother, Kay Oswald, and by his grandson, Michael Flavel. He is survived by his wife Laura Fraga, and by his children: Susan (and Brent) Flavel, Sherri (and Kevin) Anderson, Todd (and Nichole) Oswald, Eric (and Beverly Rebar) Oswald, Kalen (and Amy) Oswald, Deyanira Fraga. Leon had 27 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on November 15, 2025, at 20 North 100 West, Mendon, Utah. Leon touched many lives--in lieu of sending flowers or other condolences at this time, he would rather you make a special effort to be kind to someone or repair a broken family tie. The interment will be in the Grant Central Cemetery.
