June 14, 1957 — April 29, 2024

The service will broadcast at this LINK

Agustin Altbach Rodriguez of Rigby, Idaho passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on April 29, 2024 after a long battle with cancer.  He’s been a resident of Idaho for 7 years, after relocating from North Carolina in pursuit of a peaceful retirement and home town...with grandkids.

Agustin was born in Mexico City, Mexico on June 14, 1957 to Roman Rodriguez and Sara Guadalupe Rodriguez Altbach.  He was the second child of seven total children.   Adored by his mother, he was her “Prieto lindo.”  And he was his father’s right-hand man in the plumbing shop by age 6, which instilled in him a robust work ethic.  At the age of 17-18, Agustin, with the family car, became the neighborhood school bus driver, delivering siblings and neighbor kids to the local schools.  Besides his education in the plumbing shop, Agustin obtained further education at U.N.A.M., Mexico.

Agustin has a special bond with his sisters as he looked after them and loved them through the years.  In a house full of girls, Agustin and his brother Roman became best friends for life.   Till his last day, Agustin still considered Roman his very best friend.

While living in Missouri, Agustin worked for Shoney’s and then Golden Corral.  After relocating to North Carolina, Agustin worked at other Golden Corral’s and was then transferred to Terri’s Golden Corral, where he worked as her kitchen manager for three years.  Through working together, they became best friends.  After Agustin was promoted and transferred 2.5 hours away, Agustin and Terri began pursuing each other after 3 months of spending all of their days off together.

On December 26, 2007, Agustin married Teresa Marie Swiggard in Sanford, North Carolina.  They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Raleigh North Carolina Temple on July 9, 2010.  Agustin and Terri recently celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary.  And they have enjoyed every year and many adventures.  They built a camper from the frame up and then traveled across country to Idaho, visiting places along the way.  Most of their summers were filled with barbecues, trail riding in their side-by-side, camping with their family and friends, driving the country roads, watching the sunsets, admiring the mountain views, and spending quality time with their grandkids, near and far.

Agustin and Terri received a prompting to move to Idaho in 2017.  After relocating, Agustin found his calling working at Peterson Cabinets and Trim.  It was his favorite job he ever had.  He loved working with his son-in-law Brandon and his boss Mike Peterson.  Even when his health began to fade, Agustin wanted to go to work.  Agustin was a favorite of all who worked with him, and they admired and respected him greatly.

Agustin was raised by his parents and family to believe in Jesus Christ as his Savior.  Wanting to deepen his relationship with Jesus Christ, Agustin began pursuing additional knowledge and spiritual connection.  Multiple experiences and people in Agustin’s life directed him to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  After much study and prayer, he was baptized on May 24, 2007.  He has since served as a teacher and minister to all around him, through his words, deeds, and spirit that he shared.  His smile and his countenance invited all to be his friend.  His deep kindness drew others to him and inspired them to want to be kind and good also.

Ever since he was little, Agustin had a passion for Volkswagens.  He’s owned many over time, but his favorite was his VW Bus, which he restored and converted into a house on wheels.  He even took it camping in the mountains a couple of times.

Above all things, Agustin took great joy in his family.  He loved to serve them, teach them, hug them, and laugh with them.

Agustin is survived by his wife, Teresa Swiggard Rodriguez, his children, Mariana Nadeau (Nathan) of Altamont Springs, Florida, Paul Summers (Cristina) of Tampa, Florida, Kristin Moore (Brandon) of Rigby, Idaho, Derek Summers (Karla) of Round Rock, Texas, Katie Hathaway (Ian) of Minnesota, Nicolas Rodriguez of Minnesota, and his 11 grandchildren.  He is also survived by his father Roman Rodriguez Carmona of Hollister, Missouri, his brother Roman Rodriguez of Marshfield, Missouri, and his four sisters Mercedes Pepper, Patricia Nava, Luz Maria Gaar of Walnut Shade, Missouri and Lolita Castellanos of Tulum, Mexico.  He is preceded in death by his mother Sara Rodriguez Altbach, brother Melchor Rodriguez, and brother-in-law Julian Nava.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024 at 11:00 am in the Rigby LDS Stake Center (258 W 1st North, Rigby, Idaho).  The family will receive visitors prior to the service from 10:00 am to 10: 45 am at the same location.
