Alan Edzell Egbert , 94, passed away peacefully January 10, 2011 at The Gardens in Rigby, Idaho.
He was born April 24, 1916, in Valeview, Idaho to Hyrum Edzell and Marion Morgan Egbert . He attended schools in Teton County and graduated from Teton High School in 1934. Alan married Erma Irene Sensenbach on August 28, 1937 at the family home. Their marriage was later solomonized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on their 60th wedding anniversary.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Alan worked hard all of his life with experiences in sheepherding, farming, ranching and working for the forest service. Alan loved to fish, especially at Henry’s Lake. He enjoyed hunting, riding horses and spending time in the mountains. He played baseball and was a real sports fan, supporting the youth in all of their games. There may not have been more loyal fans of Teton High School sports. He lived all of his life in Teton Valley and spent winters in Arizona.
Alan and Erma spent many wonderful years together. Erma died September 24, 1999. He married Fern Paananen April 10, 2000. Fern died December 15, 2010.
Alan is survived by two children: Irene (Phil) Cooper of Elma, Wa, and Byron (Diana) Egbert of Tetonia Idaho. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. Surviving siblings are Irwin (Darlene) Egbert of Idaho Falls, Id and Connie (Art) Hammond of Providence, Utah. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wives, sisters, Clara Ward and Marjorie O’Brien, brother James Egbert and two children, Annis Reece and Evelyn Dickson and two grandchildren, Barbara Moyer and David Reece and two great-grandchildren Brandy Masters and Erica Moyer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 14, 2011, at the Tetonia LDS Chapel, with Bishop Ronald Berry, conduction. The family will greet visitors Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., and from 10:00 a.m. 10:45 a.m., prior to services, both at the church. Burial will be in the Cache Clawson Cemetery, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
