Alfred Dean Stites, 96, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Alfred was born on June 22, 1929, in Montrose, Colorado, to Benjamin Harrison Stites and Elsie Willis Stites. He was the second son, joining his older brother, LeeBert Stites. During his youth, he played the clarinet and enjoyed wrestling, graduating from Montrose High School in 1946.
Later that year, Alfred enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served for three years. His service included assisting with the reconstruction of Hiroshima following World War II.
In December 1950, Alfred married Luanna Galloway in Durango, Colorado, and they made their home in Montrose. Together they welcomed five children: William “Bill,” Steven, David, and Danny. Alfred worked for the Bureau of Reclamation, and about every two years the family moved as his career required.
Alfred and Luanna later divorced in July 1977. In December 1978, he married Evaray Henrie, and they were later sealed in the LDS Temple. Together, they expanded their family with Michelle and Carmen. In 1992, Alfred settled into a home in Grant, Idaho, where he spent his winters and summer holidays for many years. Alfred will be fondly remembered for his love of the outdoors. He especially enjoyed riding four-wheelers, hunting, horseback riding, calling elk, camping, and, most of all, spending time with his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Evaray Stites of Idaho Falls, ID; his children:
Bill (Lori) Stites of Ulm, MT;
Steven (Lynne) Stites of Garden Valley, ID;
David (Glenda) Stites of Payson, UT;
Danny (Rhonda) Stites of Island Park, ID;
Michelle (Alex) Cureton of Idaho Falls, ID;
and Carmen Stites of Idaho Falls, ID.
Alfred is also survived by 17 grandchildren, over 25 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and two great grandchildren.
