Alton Denzel Rainey

Alton Denzel Rainey, 75, of Rigby, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. He was born August 20, 1937, in Lyman to Alvin Denzel Rainey and Lila McIntier Rainey. He was raised and attended schools in the Lyman area, graduating from Madison High School. He participated in high school sports and especially enjoyed playing basketball. He served in the US Navy and participated in Operation Hardtack in the Marshall Islands while stationed in Hawaii. On Jan 8, 1960 he married Ann “LaRee” Park in Lyman. To this union they added four children. He worked as a carpet layer and for the Idaho Falls Police Department for many years and owned and operated Rainey’s Carpet Sales. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he loved music and playing the organ. He enjoyed the outdoors, four wheeling, and fishing, fly tying, and restoring classic cars. He and his wife LaRee spent the last three winters in Mesquite, Nevada where they made many close friends. He is survived by his wife, LaRee Rainey, of Rigby, daughters, Angela Dawn (James) Wolf, of Idaho Falls, Karla (Mel) Cude, of Rigby, son, Guy (Kris) Rainey, of Rexburg, sisters, Nelda (Dan) Wright, Linda Ritchie, both of Idaho Falls, 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Marlene McNeil, Julia Pettingill, brother, Vaughn Rainey, and his son, Jeffrey Denzel Rainey. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the Rigby 2nd Ward LDS Chapel, 364 N. 4100 E., Rigby, with Bishop Brent Kunz, conducting. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
