Alvin Waters, age 85, of Rigby, died Saturday, August 29, 2009, at Rexburg Nursing and Rehab in Rexburg, Idaho.
Alvin was born September 23, 1923 at Beaver, Utah a son of Delbert Thomas Waters and Effie Cathorine Dalley. He attended Bear River High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II serving overseas for 23 months. He married Mary Jane Johnson in Brigham City, Utah January 14, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls L.D.S. Temple on July 16, 1999. He worked as a carpenter building homes in the surrounding areas and later joined the union as a carpenter. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed timber work with a double bladed ax, fishing, and hunting.
Survivors include two daughters, Alvirena Jane (Preston) Beasley of Lewisville, Katherine Jean (Stan) Beld of Evansville, Wyoming, Three sons, Alvin Thomas (Patricia) Waters of Idaho Falls, John Larkin (Barbara) Waters of Burton, Rodney Sawyer (Josephine) Waters of Ririe, 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Alvin was preceded in death by parents, his wife, Mary Jane Waters, a son, David, a daughter Mary Ann (Don) Johnston, a half sister Thelma Johnson, sisters, Marie C. Kerby, and Erma Healey, brothers Delbert Waters, and Lorin Waters, and Lamar Waters.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 4, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., at the Ririe Stake Center with Bishop Steve Cook, officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the Stake Center. Burial will be at the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel. Military Rites will be performed by the Jefferson’s Veteran’s Team and the Idaho Honor Guard.
