Andy Devon Helm, age 82, of Menan, died at Life Care Center of Idaho Falls, Sunday, October 14, 2007.
Andy was born May 18, 1925, at Newark, Texas a son of Joseph Agnes Helm and Maude Pauline Wilson Helm. After graduating from Midway High School he joined the United States Navy and served during World War II as a Signalman. He was on a landing craft infantry large on Omaha Beach on D Day. While in the Navy he was Fleet Champion in Boxing. He married Marcene J. Davis in Rigby August 15, 1958. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She preceded him in death. He worked as a bar tender for Herbs Bar in Rigby, at Hock Tire in Idaho Falls, as a Boiler operator and a distillery supervisor in Heyburn, Idaho for Simplot. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge Rigby #3921 and was a scout master. He was an avid reader and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include two daughters: Tammi Lynn (Tony) Hathaway of Rigby and Paula Jo (Warren) Merrill of Menan, three sons: Dennis G. (Shawna) Staggs of Rigby, Bill (Jodey) Helm of Shelley and Ben Helm of Rexburg, two brothers: Steve (Ann) Helm of Horseshoe Bend, Idaho, and John (Mary Jo) Helm of Miami, Florida, 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son Thomas E. Staggs, one sister, three brothers and one great grandson.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 19, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Menan 2nd Ward LDS Chapel, 3547 East Menan Lorenzo Highway, with Bishop Eric Beck officiating. The family will visit with friends on Thursday, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and on Friday for one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Grant Central Cemetery.
