Anna Marie Brown

January 3, 1918 — January 20, 2006

Anna Marie Stremel Brown passed away on January 20th, 2006 age 88. She was born of German emigrants in Portland, Oregon on January 3rd, 1918. Her father had been an officer in the Czar’s army before taking his family to America in 1912. A member of that truly remarkable generation, she began life during the turmoil of the Great War, came of age during the Great Depression and answered the call of service during World War 2 installing radio systems in military aircraft. After the war, she married Gerald Brown of Iona, Idaho, a decorated war hero, and raised six children. Her interests were many and her labors on behalf of others never ceased. In addition to caring for her family, she worked as a beautician, mid-wife, herbalist and naturopathic healer. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Margaret Stremel, a sister Anna Stremel, five brothers: Peter Stremel, John Stremel, Alex Stremel, Val Krieger and Joe Krieger, Her husband Gerald Brown, one son, Joseph Peter Brown and one grandson, Ryan Maas. She is survived by two sisters, Rose Cleveland and Angelina McAtee, a brother Lawrence Krieger, five children: Lei Lani Lindsey, Gerald Brown, Gregory Brown, Lisa Maas and Susan Ogdon, eighteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be held Monday January 23, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in the Menan LDS Stake Center, 698 North 3600 East, with Bishop Randy South officiating. The family will visit with friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and on Monday for one hour prior to services at the Stake Center. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery.
