Arlo N. Wood, 76 of Rexburg, died Saturday, November 15, 2014 at his home.
He was born May 27, 1938 in Idaho Falls to Lawrence Elba Wood and Elsie Matilda Nickel Wood. He attended schools in Bates and Driggs and graduated from Teton High School in 1956. During High School he participated in football, played the French horn in the orchestra and was active in the student council. He served in the US Navy, and the Army National Guard. While serving in the Navy he met Patricia Jane Brown of Bellingham, Washington. They were married September 20, 1958 in Bellingham, Washington; their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple September 1, 1961. Arlo continued his education at BYU Provo and studied engineering. In 1960 they moved back to Driggs, he farmed and ranched in that area until 1968. He also worked as a factory representative, in Denver, Colorado for Joy Manufacturing in the US and Canada, he owned and operated Wood’s Ready Mix in Driggs, he drove truck, school bus for Sugar Salem Schools and drove bus for Salt Lake Express.
Arlo was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a fulltime mission, with his wife in the North Carolina, Charlotte Mission. He had a passion for horses and enjoyed riding and shoeing horses and helped start the Over the Hill Gang, a horse riding club in Rexburg. He loved people, was a master story teller and joke teller.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Jane Brown Wood of Rexburg, son, Johnny Shane (Jeanne) Wood, of Vernal, Utah, daughters, Wendy Sue (Alan) Frogget, of Gardnerville, Nevada, Linda Wood (Scott) Sterling, of Auburn, Washington, Hazel Katherene Wood (Kevon) Polatis of Rexburg, sister, Pauline Hill, of Idaho Falls, brother, Vern (Rita) Wood, of Rupert, 24 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Bernice Peacock, Velda Wood, brothers, Milan Wood and Orville Wood.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 21, 2014 at the Salem Ward LDS Chapel, 3462 N. Salem Road, Rexburg. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday evening and from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. prior to services, both at the church. Burial will be in the Bates Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
