Arnold George Briggs, age 92, passed away at his home in Rigby Tuesday, July 4th, 2017. Arnold was born October 15, 1924 in Archer, Idaho to Alma Briggs and Hilda Rose Aeschbacher Briggs. He attended schools in Archer and Rexburg, graduating from Madison High School. He served in the U. S. Army as a Squad Leader in Company K, 15th Infantry, 3rd Division during World War II, and received a Purple Heart. He married his sweetheart Marva June Atkinson on November 8, 1945 in Los Angeles, California. They were the parents to four children. He worked as a security guard at INL where he was a Master Sharp Shooter. After Arnold’s retirement, he and Marva served a two-year mission at the Family History Center and a one-year mission at the Deseret Industries in Idaho Falls and Ucon. Marva passed away on December 11th, 2009. In 2011 Arnold asked Marilyn Hunter on a date, and Marilyn has said, “Arnie made me fall in love with him.” They were married August 27th, 2011 in Rexburg, Idaho. Arnold loved spending time with Marilyn working in their yard, going on drives, visiting with friends and neighbors, and singing in the choir in St. George. Arnold was an avid golfer, and enjoyed playing golf with his children and grandchildren. He loved cars, bowling, playing pool, making walking sticks, watching his Utah Jazz, Colorado Rockies, and Boise State Broncos. He loved to play pinochle and was instrumental in teaching the game to his family. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Arnold was a friend to all and someone who always had a smile to share. He is survived by his wife Marilyn (Hunter) Briggs of Rigby, Connie (Jeff) Swegle of Albuquerque, Tami (Larry) Taylor of Burton, Lance (Susie) Briggs of Menan, and daughter-in-law Deanne (Paul) Dial of Idaho Falls, 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marva, son Bradley, granddaughter Chelsea Taylor, grandson Graig Briggs, two brothers Glen and Lorin Briggs, and sister Carma Hanni. Funeral services will be held Monday July 10th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the LDS Church at 602 Sundance, Rigby, Idaho. The family will visit with friends Sunday, July 9th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street, Rigby, and on Monday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery.
