Listen to Obituary

Our tender-hearted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and friend, Artell Armstrong, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the age of 90.

Artell was born on August 23, 1935, in Rigby, Idaho, to William Leslie Armstrong and Dora Harmon Armstrong. He was the youngest of five children and was welcomed into the family by his sister Jean and brothers David, Arvin, and Dale. He grew up on a farm in Lewisville, Idaho, where he often rode a steer while herding cows and completing his daily chores. At the age of 19, Artell joined the Army and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in August 1956. On October 24, 1956, he married his sweetheart, Myrna Bowles; they were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together they were blessed with four children: Martel, Kendra, Dorothy, and Carl. Artell worked in road construction for many years. He later took a welding course at Ricks College, where he discovered a true talent and love for welding. He was a skilled and dedicated tradesman, working as a boilermaker and welder until his retirement. After his retirement, he spent countless hours welding metal flowers, railings, and benches as well as many other projects in his shop. A hardworking man, he was never afraid to get down in the dirt to get the job done and was always willing to lend a hand to others. He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ. He served in many church callings throughout his life and always served with his whole heart. He and his beloved wife, Myrna, served two missions together-one at Martin's Cove in Wyoming and another at the Heber Valley Girls Camp in Heber, Utah. He and Myrna also served for many years in the Vernal Temple. He really enjoyed his missionary and temple service. He is survived by his sweet wife, Myrna, and their children: Marty (Tiya) Armstrong, Kendra (Vance) Roper, Dorothy (Glenn) McConkie, and Carl (Alicia) Armstrong, as well as 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings. Artell will be remembered for his love of family, his testimony of the Savior, his willingness to serve others, the fact that he never met a stranger, and his many welding creations that can be seen throughout the community. The Armstrong family expresses heartfelt thanks to the many friends and neighbors who have shown such love and support, as well as the staff of Canyon Home Care & Hospice-especially his nurse Connie and his kind aide, Kylie. Funeral Services for Artell Armstrong will be held Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 12Noon at Naples 2nd Ward (2313 South 1500 East). Visitation for family and friends will be held at 10:30am prior to the service. Interment will be in Vernal Memorial Park with Military Honors by the American Legion Post 11.
