After high school Arvin went to Ricks Collage for a year and later attended Idaho State University for another two years. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a two year mission to New Zealand. After serving his mission he joined the United States Army. Arvin and LaDawn enjoyed camping and traveling together. He spent many hours reading and gardening. He especially liked serving in the temple with his wife LaDawn, working for seven years in Idaho Falls and a year and a half in Rexburg and was looking forward to the rededication of the Idaho Falls Temple in April where he was called to serve again.
