On March 15th, Avis “A”, Marie Ballard Hess, passed away at the age of 80, on February 15, 2016 in Idaho Falls, ID.
She and her twin brother Leland, was born early on Thanksgiving Day, November 28th, 1935 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
She attended Catholic boarding schools until she was in 8th grade, and graduated from Washington High School, in Inglewood California in 1953.
At 20 years old, she met her husband Lamont Leo Hess, from Rigby Idaho. They were married on June 25th 1958, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple in Utah. She remained married for 57 years.
A convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in 1955, she devoted herself to Church assignments throughout her life.
She graduated from Brigham Young University in 1959 with a Bachelor Degree in Social Studies.
Career work included Nursing work from 1964 to 1967, government social work from 1969 to 1972, serving as a unit manager for the Social Welfare Department in Santa Cruz County, California. Additionally she earned an Associate of Applied Science, Legal Assistant from the Community College of Southern Nevada, in 1991.
She enjoyed genealogy work, fulfilling her church assignments, and a painting method called Norwegian Rosemaling, all of which she became very proficient and skilled at.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2016 at Rigby 15th Ward LDS Chapel; 602 Sundance, Rigby. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
