Avis Marie Peterson, 89, of Rigby, died Thursday, October 31, 2013 at her home with her daughter by her side.
She was born September 25, 1924, in Elk Point, South Dakota to Julius William Grulke and GlenCora Erwin Grulke. She was raised and attended schools in New Lisbon, Wisconsin; graduating from New Lisbon High School. On October 29, 1949, she married Earl Bennett Peterson in Los Angeles, California. During WWII she worked for Rayovac Battery and Electro Motors in Chicago, Illinois. She was also a proof reader for the US Navy and worked for the Railroad as a route clerk.
Avis was a member of The Crown of Life Lutheran Church. She enjoyed swimming, hunting, fishing camping and playing cards.
She is survived by her daughter; Diane (Kent) Merrill, son, Kenneth (Denise) Peterson, both of Rigby, 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband 2 brother and 2 sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 16, 2013, at the Crown of Life Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Schilling, officiating. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
