Bartley H. Stowell, 83, of Rigby, died Friday, January 30, 2009, at his home.
He was born October 29, 1925, in Rigby, to Eugene David Stowell and Ada Lillian Helquist Stowell. He was raised and attended schools in Rigby. He enlisted in the US Army on February 26, 1945. On September 12, 1950, he married Nedine Maurer in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He worked with his dad in Stowell’s Dairy delivering milk to homes in Rigby for 50 years, owned Stowell’s Milky Way in Rigby and was a Refrigeration Technician.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as High Priest Group Leader, as Sunday School President, was active in scouting for many years serving as Scout Master, as a High Counselor at Ricks College. He also served in the Idaho Falls Temple and with his wife served a mission for the church in the Singapore Mission. He was active in the Rigby Chamber of Commerce and received the Life Time Service Award. He was a member of the Rigby Lions Club receiving the Melvin Jones Award. Bart enjoyed being with his family, the outdoors, riding snow machines waterskiing and collecting and restoring nostalgic farm equipment and cars.
He is survived by his wife Nedine Stowell, of Rigby, daughters; Debra (Nile) Hall, of Rigby, Jill (Jim) Jackson, of Denver, Co, Jenny (Brian ) Decker, of Idaho Falls, sons; Todd (Karen) Stowell and Daniel (Pam) Stowell, both of Rigby, brothers; Kay (Amy) Stowell, of Ogden, UT, and Vee (Ann) Stowell, of Brigham City, UT, 23 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2009, at the Rigby Stake Center (258 West 1st North). The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Monday evening, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, and on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., at the stake center. Interment will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery, with Military Rites by Jefferson Veterans Team.
