Bernice Evelyn Johnson Burrows, age 94, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2011 at the home of her daughter, Marva Kummer in Lewisville.
She was born June 23, 1917, in Deweyville, Utah, the daughter of Joseph and Marva Spackman Johnson. She attended schools in Ogden and Tremonton, Utah. On May 16, 1938, she married Marc E. Burrows in Reno, Nevada; their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS temple. The lived in Oakland, California, where their first 4 children were born; then in Provo, Brigham City, and Honeyville, Utah and in 1955 they moved to Lewisville, Idaho, where they made their home. She worked for many years at Barber’s Drive-in and Broulim’s in Rigby.
She loved to do handwork, sewing, gardening, quilting, and took up oil painting when she was 70 years old. She crocheted and did humanitarian sewing until earlier this year. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions including Primary President, Beehive Gleaner teacher, dance director, and was a faithful visiting teacher. She also was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Above all she was a devoted Mother to her children. The family would like to thank Alpine Home Health and Hospice for the loving care they gave Bernice.
She is survived by her six children; Donna (Dee) Thueson, of Rexburg, Diane (Charles) Miller, of Menan, Marva (Frank) Kummer, of Lewisville, Marc (Kathy) Burrows, of Sandy, Utah, John (Brenda) Burrows, of Idaho Falls, and Maureen (Rod) Briscoe, of Richland, Washington, 38 grandchildren, 97 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Marc Burrows, her parents, 3 sisters and 1 brother.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 21, 2011 at Lewisville 1st Ward LDS Chapel, with Bishop Val Rosenberg, conducting. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday evening, and from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services, both at the church. Burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery, under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
