Betty Jo Wall

August 2, 1932 — December 8, 2017

Betty Jo Wall, 85, of Ammon, Idaho, passed away Friday, December 8, 2017, at home. Betty was born August 2, 1932, in Clarksville, Arkansas, to Bonnie Mae Moffitt Pitts and Ephe Earl Pitts. She traveled with her family, working in fields picking cotton and fruit across the county until finally settling down in Norco, California. She graduated high school in Corona, California. Betty married Bobby Julius Collier, July 5th, 1952. Two children were born; Bob Jay Collier and Carol Sue Martin. They were later divorced December 15th, 1957. Betty worked and lived in Corona, California working in several fields. She was a telephone operator, secretary for attorneys and finally settled into a job that she found great success and fulfilment. She worked for a newspaper selling display advertising. She enjoyed participating in local theater productions and was a natural actress. She had the voice of an angel and also sang in night clubs in the area. She once turned down a contract to sing professionally as it would take her away from her children. She met Herbert Francis Wall and they married September 19th, 1968. They moved to San Diego, California where he worked managing the Yacht Harbor Inn. Herb was offered an opportunity to manage The Virginian Motel in Jackson, Wyoming. In 1969, the family moved from San Diego to Jackson, Wyoming. It was a culture shock that soon turned into a great love of the mountain life as well as, the once small community. Due to Herb’s health problems, they moved to Salem, Oregon to a lower sea level in 1980. Herb passed away April 22nd, 1984. Betty remained in Salem for a year. She then moved to Rigby, Idaho where she lived with her daughter and son in law, Glen and Carol Martin. Glen built her a house across the street from the Martin home place. She worked as a secretary and proof reader for the Jefferson Star. She was a member of the Rigby Community Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed great fellowship as well as singing in the choir. She also volunteered for the Bonneville Humane Society. Later in years, she moved into her daughter and son in law’s home where she resided at the time of her death. Betty and her best friend, Judy Young often found themselves attending and following a particular band. We called them Creedence Clearwater Revisited groupies. Together they attended over 40 concerts. They got to know all the guys in the band and was treated likely royalty when in attendance. Betty is survived by her children; Bob J (Juhree) Collier of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Carol S (Glen) Martin of Ammon, Idaho and Sharon K Frew of Roberts, “informally adopted.” Grandchildren; Kevin D (Angela) Martin of Rigby, AJ (Janna Kulow) Martin of Rigby and Stephanie Collier of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and five great grandchildren. Brother, Gerald Ray Carter of Grants Pass, Oregon. She was preceded in death by husbands, Bob Collier and Herb Wall. Her parents and her brother, Harold Dean Smith. The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to Solace Hospice. The nurses and aids are very special people and we appreciate all they did. We would also like to thank Zach, her personal care provider for over a year. They formed a special bond that made him part of the family. Services will be held at Eckersell Memorial Chapel at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.erckersellfunerlhome.com
