Robert John Bensen, 75, of Menan, died Saturday, March 20, 2010, at his home.
He was born March 14, 1935, in Arlington Nebraska, to Albert Bensen and LaNetta Gnuse Bensen.
He was raised and attended schools in Arlington. On February 6, 1982, he married Norma Jessie Schermerhorn in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
He was a truck driver for 48 years. And for the past 18 years, he drove for Doug Andrus Trucking and was named Idaho Truck Driver of the Year in 1993. He was an active member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Rexburg. March 1st of this year, Robert celebrated 30 years of sobriety with his Rigby AA Group. He was a member of NRA and served as Past President of the Eagles Lodge in Idaho Falls. He enjoyed working in the yard, irrigating, gardening, woodworking, elk hunting, and going 4 wheeling in the mountains.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Jessie Bensen, of Menan, daughters, Lisa (Gene) Statham, of Rexburg, Julie Bensen, of LasVegas, Nevada, sons, Craig (Joyce) Kerbs, of Fort Morgan, Colorado, Kent Kerbs, of Williamsberg, New Mexico, David Bensen, of Idaho Falls, brothers, Don (Karma) Bensen, of Littleton Colorado, Jim (Susan) Bensen, of Blair, Nebraska, and an Aunt, Margie Hilgenkamp, of Arlington, Nebraska, grandchildren, Jeremy, Lacey, Jessie, Levi, Chris, Nikki, Justyn, and great grandchildren, Trinity, Vinney, Michah, Tristan, Sara, and Craig.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2010, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street, Rigby. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
