Brent Bailey Smith, 67, of Ririe, died October 25, 2010, at his home, after an extended illness.
He was born December 11, 1942, in Shelton, Idaho to Floyd Merle Smith and Mary Amanda Bailey Smith. He was raised and attended schools in Ririe, graduating from Ririe High School. On November 25, 1961, he married Onda K. Summers in Shelton, Idaho; their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls, LDS Temple. He worked as an insurance agent for Blue Cross Blue Shield and Prudential and received many awards. He was also a gun safety instructor.
Brent is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a hard working man full of integrity who is loved and respected by the community, family and friends. He enjoyed helping neighbors and friends irrigate and farm. He deeply loved his wife and cherished the time they spent enjoying nature, fishing on south fork and hunting together.
He is survived by his wife, Onda K. Smith, of Ririe, daughters, Sandi (Chris) Maathuis, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Shanna Smith, of Anchorage, Alaska, sons, Michael (Melissa) Smith, of Anchorage, Alaska, Clinton (Michelle) Smith, of Kennewick, Washington, sister Maureen (David) Thurston, of Rigby, brothers, Reid (Barbara) Smith, of Bakersfield, California, Lynn (Sandra) Smith of Idaho Falls, 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Donna Cook.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 30, 2010, at the Ririe Stake Center with Bishop Danny Ferguson conducting. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., Friday
Evening and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services, both at the stake center. Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Eastern Idaho.
