Brian McLain, 51, of Rigby, died Monday, May 14, 2012 at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah from complications of surgery.
He was born February 21, 1961 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, a son of Earl G. and OEnone Joyce Phillips McLain. He attended schools in Ennis, Montana; Hamer, Idaho; and graduated from Shelley High School. He was a member of the FFA and was on the high school wrestling team. He attended Ricks College, graduating with an Associate’s degree and then from Utah State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Plant Science and a Master’s degree in Weed Science and Forages.
He married Kathryn M. Fielding December 28, 1984 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
He was an active member of the LDS Church and served a Greek speaking mission to Australia. He served in four bishoprics and as Bishop of the Rigby 11th Ward. He also served as a counselor in the Rigby Singles Branch.
He was a hard worker. He worked for Cannon Dairy during his youth, for Canners/Nunhems Seed Corp. in Lewisville for 10 years, as an Ag Consultant for 8 years at Valley Wide CO-OP in Rexburg, and as the Jefferson/Clark County Ag Extension Agent for 6 years with the University of Idaho.
He enjoyed camping, hiking, gardening, horseback riding, reading, teaching 4-H and Dutch oven cooking and spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn of Rigby, daughters; Kyris (Shawn) Powell of Rexburg, Ashley (Spencer) Drolette of Kelso, Washington, Tamara McLain, Shannon McLain and Sandi McLain, all of Rigby, a brother; Von (Kathy) McLain of Peoria, Arizona, and 2 granddaughters; Brooklyn and Kassity Powell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister; Tana Saffell and a brother; Kyle McLain.
Funeral services will be held Saturday May 19, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. in the Rigby South Stake Center (106 N. 3800 E., Rigby) with Bishop Kevin Ringel officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and on Saturday at the Stake Center from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
