Bruce A. Eckersell
August 22, 1927 — March 9, 2016
Bruce was born August 22, 1927, in Idaho Falls, the son of Adam Berdett and Pearl Thomson Eckersell. He attended Rigby schools, graduating from Rigby High School. He continued his education at Ricks College and then attended and graduated from the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science.
After returning from Mortuary School, Bruce’s mother encouraged him to go visit Luana Poole. They were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, May 18, 1949.
They lived in Rigby where he worked with his father and eventually owned Eckersell Memorial Chapel.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he served as Scout Master, Bishop, Counselor in the Rigby Stake Presidency and Patriarch. With Luana he served a mission to the Singapore Mission, which included India and Malaysia. They served together for 21 years in the Idaho Falls Temple where Bruce was called to be a Sealer. He was always willing to do whatever his Heavenly Father asked of him, and always seemed to be spiritually in tune when others were in need of his special type of knowledge and his most gentle reassuring council.
He served in our community on various committees and boards. In his professional career he served as president of the Idaho Funeral Service Association, was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Idaho State Board of Morticians and was President of the International Conference of Funeral Service Examining Board.
His example of love towards everyone, his tenderness as he served countless others in their time of grief and sorrow, and his deep devotion to Heavenly Father and to our wonderful mother, will always be remembered fondly. Thank you Dad, we love you.
Bruce is survived by: his wife Luana; his children, Paula Eckersell Johnson, Shauna (Glen) Bennett, Laine (Vicki Marie) Eckersell, Lisa-Eckersell (Donald) Williams, Clair (Vicki Joie) Eckersell and Terry (Shauna Ann) Eckersell; his sister Sheron (Don) Olson; his 28 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, his dearly missed sisters Marilynne Eckersell and Clarece Bowler, and two precious granddaughters.
Bruce’s funeral will be held, Tuesday, March 15, 2016 in the Rigby Stake Center, 258 West 1st North, Rigby, Idaho. The family will meet with friends at the Rigby Stake Center, Monday evening, March 14, 2016 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday prior to funeral services from 9:30 to 10:45 AM. Interment will be at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
