He had to go through extensive rehabilitation. It was a long recovery but his attitude remained positive. It was through his diligence and help of family and friends that he was able to find a new life. The community Bruce lived in made many conveniences possible making our home handicap accessible and a pleasant place to live. Many friends and neighbors helped throughout his recovery, as did his children. We appreciated his Spinal Cord Injury Team at the VA in Salt Lake City and the Veterans Service Administration. We have felt blessed to have had so much help during this time in his life.
Bruce Hill was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he had the best home teachers in the world. For the last thirteen years Bob Reiley and Jim Hunter visited him every month. Bob always brought his barber tools to cut his hair keeping him looking sharp.
Danny Harris, a lifelong friend, who served in Vietnam with him called several times a week checking on him. When Bruce got back the ability to drive he’d go get Danny. They would go to Tetonia, Ashton, and Rexburg. They’d often stop for a burger on the way home. Danny loved buying a pop and treat for Bruce and Sophia on their trips together.
Bruce was a great example for his family. He taught us all to build, fix, create, and dream. He shared his passions and our passions. He taught us what it means to let God prevail in your life. We will miss him dearly but know that he is watching over us and that we will be with him again someday.
