Charley Duane Killian, 78, died Thursday, January 14, 2010, at Pine Brook Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
He was born September 5, 1931, at Sunnydale, Idaho to Charley LeRoy Killian and Zilpah Chleo Young.
Having moved from Idaho to Utah when he was 5-years-old, Duane attended Stoker Elementary School in Bountiful and South Davis Jr. High School in Woods Cross. In the spring of 1942, the family moved back to Idaho and Duane completed his schooling at Rigby High School. Duane joined the Navy on November 4, 1950. He was assigned to the attack cargo ship, USS Oberon, during the Korean War.
On August 16, 1951, he married Ellen Magdalene Glenn in Garfield, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Duane and Ellen raised six children in Rigby, Idaho. They later divorced. Duane later married Shirley Winchester White in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He later married Connie Bell, an acquaintance from High School, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Duane was a renowned diesel mechanic. He operated his own business; Duane’s Diesel Service, for a number of years and eventually shared his mechanical skills as a teacher at Ririe High School, Eastern Idaho Vocational-Technical School, and Rigby High School. Duane was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many callings in the church, but his favorite was that of Scout Master, a calling that he held for many years. Duane was an avid hunter and fisherman. He truly enjoyed the beauty of the Rocky Mountains.
He is survived by his loving wife, Connie; daughters, Vikki Ricks, of Eugene, Oregon, Jeanie (David) Briggs, Terri (Lane) Criddle, of Rigby, Wendy (Jerry) Davis of Rigby; sons, Dana (Robin) of Rigby ,Bret (Velvet) of Medicine Lodge; sister Louyene (Frank) Butler of Shelley; 24 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren yet to be born in 2010.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Ellen and Shirley, and Denver Jason Briggs, a great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 18, 2010, at the Rigby 1st and 4th Wards Church, 401 West 1st South, Rigby, with Bishop David Briggs, conducting. The family will receive friends prior to the services from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., also at the church. Interment will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. The family wishes to express their heart-felt thanks to the staff at Pine Brook Assisted Living Center.
