Careen Moedl Hawkins, age 85, of Rexburg, passed away at Temple View Transitional Care Center in Rexburg, ID, Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
Careen was born March 12, 1939 in Idaho Falls, ID to Joseph Moedl and Emma Mickelsen. She graduated from Mark Keppel High School in Alhambra, California and also attended Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, California.
Careen married William H. Hawkins in 1977. Careen and Bill lived in Jackson, WY and Mackay, ID before settling in Laguna Niguel, CA. After Bill passed away, Careen took care of her father, Joe until his passing and then spent time with her daughters, Joleen and Sonja. Careen lived in Ririe, ID by her son, Dan for a time and also lived in Bancroft, ID by her sister Louise.
Careen worked as a bookkeeper for most of her life but later went to school to become a Nail Tech. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and very much enjoyed singing in the choir. She loved crafts, doll making, and crocheting. She made wedding cakes, loved to cook and spend as much time with family as possible.
Careen is survived by her son, Daniel Skene and her two daughters, Sonja Nordstrom and Joleen Fenton-Fahmy, her sister, Judy Steele, 7 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Emma, her brothers, Darrel Ivie and Roger Moedl and also her sister Louise Woods.
Funeral services will be held at the Ririe Stake Center, Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. The family will visit with friends before the service on the same day at 10:00 a.m. in the Relief Society Room. Burial will be at the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery in Ririe, Idaho.
