Carl D Johnson, 82, of Terreton, Idaho died Sunday, November 20, 2005 in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Carl was born June 10, 1923 at Idaho Falls, Idaho the son of Robert Hoggan Johnson and Rachael Edith Butler. He attended school at the Grant Grade School and graduated from Midway High School. He attended Machinist School in Bremerton, Washington.
He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II as a cook. On returning home he worked in Salt Lake City as a shoe salesman and an insurance salesman.
He married Grace Veon McLean on March 7, 1958 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They later moved to Idaho where he sold Moormann’s Feed Supplement to local farmers and ranchers. They made their home in Grant, Idaho where he farmed until 1971. They then moved to Terreton, Idaho to farm there.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints he served in numerous callings. He served in the young men and scouting programs as an advisor and counselor, a Scout Master, a Varsity Coach and Explorer Leader. He was a MIA Super Intendant, a Stake Counselor, ward mission leader, Elders Quorum President and was a counselor and instructor in the High Priest Group. He taught Sunday School and was a Teacher Development Instructor. He served a mission with his wife to the Milwaukee, Wisconsin Mission from 1992 to 1993. With his wife they belonged to a dance group that danced throughout the Snake River Valley.
He loved the gospel and lived to fish.
He is survived by four sons; Howard (Susan) Johnson of Terreton, Idaho, Reed (Kim) Johnson of Wilsonville, Oregon, Brent Johnson of Riverton, Utah and David (Janeal) Johnson of Terreton , Idaho. Three sisters; Joyce (Reed) Nixon of Oram, Utah, Vaudys (Harold) Rigby, of Rexburg, Idaho and Alaire (Darrell) Hanni of Idaho Falls, Idaho. One brother, Neahl (Kathy) Johnson of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Veon Johnson, his parents, a daughter, Lisa Sue Johnson, a son, Bradley Douglas Johnson and a brother, Robert Johnson.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2005 in the Terreton 1st Ward LDS Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Ken Hall officiating. The family will meet with friends on Monday, November 21, 2005 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, Idaho. Burial will be in the West Jefferson Memorial Cemetery in Terreton, Idaho under the direction of Eckersell Funeral Home.
