Carl Johnson, 62 of Rigby, died Friday, October 23, 2009, at his home.
He was born March 25, 1947, in Driggs, Idaho, to Kenneth LaVell Johnson, and Marie Margret Hansen Johnson. He was raised and attended schools in Driggs and graduated from Driggs High School, following high school, he attended chef school at Idaho State University. On August 11, 1977, he married Susan Kay Gibson, in Pocatello, Idaho.
He ranched with his family in Driggs, served as Sheriff in Helena, Montana for 3 years, owned a restaurant in Gunnison, Colorado, worked on the oil rigs in Wyoming, Utah and New Mexico and Washington as a derrick hand. He also operated a seismic rig in Wyoming, Idaho and Utah, searching for oil. He worked as a hunting guide in Wyoming and in housing construction in Pocatello, and as a bartender at the Silver Dollar Bar and Cottonwood Bar in Pocatello.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Carl loved to rodeo, hunting in the Teton Basin, and fishing the Salmon River, along with camping with his family and relatives. He especially loved his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Kay Johnson, of Rigby, Shelsea Fawn (Hans Poulter) Johnson, of Rigby, sons, Shannon Karl (Danielle) Johnson, of Shelley, Shane Lee Johnson, of Rigby, Terrance Raymond Johnson, of Deer Lodge, Montana, Carl Kenneth Johnson, of Helena, Montana, Michael Paul (Jessica) Johnson, of Helena, Montana, Robert Miller, of Iowa, a sister, Ann Marie Custis, of Sheridan, Wyoming, brothers, LaVell H.(Elaine) Johnson, of Driggs, Idaho, Kenneth Lynn (Judy)Johnson, of Detrich, Idaho, Terryl Eugene (Marie)Johnson, of Driggs, and 10 grandchildren, with one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandparents.
A Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street, Rigby. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday evening, and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., prior to services, both at the Funeral Home.
