Carl Dean Lydon, 66, of Rexburg, died Thursday, November 19, 2009, at his home in Rexburg.
Carl was born January 27, 1943, in Elkhart, Indiana a son of Martin Patrick Lydon and Vera Marie Black.
He attended school in Hawthorne, California and St. Joseph’s Catholic School until the eighth grade. He graduated from Lennox High School. He was a member of the Catholic Church. Carl served with the United States Navy in the Philippines as a Postal Clerk and a Commodores’ driver. He married Beatriz Mendieta on December 31, 1963 in Manilla, Phillippines. They later divorced. He married Elizabeth Schooss Winfree on April 17, 1993 in Fullerton, California. He was a truck driver for forty years and was Santa Claus for the children for 44 years.
He loved to fish, golf, and travel.
Carl is survived by his wife Elizabeth Lydon of Rexburg, daughters Margaret Christine (Jeff)Lydon-Lowery of Ball Ground, Georgia; Kathleen Louise Johnston of Virginia Beach, Virginia; step-daughter Elizabeth Arlene (Jason) McCarthy of Bend, Oregon; step-sons Gordon Brent Winfree of Napels, Florida; Gregory Allen Winfree of Honeydew, California; Geoffrey Robert (Vonda) Winfree of Rexburg; Mother, Vera Lydon of Lancaster, California; Brothers, Richard Allen (Joann) Lydon of Pleasanton, California; Robert Stephen (Beverly) Lydon of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; David Louis (Susanne) Lydon of Palmdale, California, and 17 grandchildren.
Carl is preceded in death by his father and two brothers.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2009, at the Valley View L.D.S. Chapel in Rexburg with Bishop Ted Ashton conducting. The family will visit with friends prior to the services at the church from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. under the care of Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby.
An additional Memorial service will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, December 5, 2009, at Saint Bonaventure Catholic Church, 16410 Springdale, Avenue, Huntington Beach, CA 92646.
