Carla Mae Passey Nichols, 88 of Rigby, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Sage Grove Assisted Living Center in Rigby. She was under the care of Aspen Hospice.
Carla was born October 29, 1927 in Spokane, Washington to Thomas McClenian and Greeta Sagaser. She grew up and attended schools in Milk River, Alberta Canada. On October 11, 1946, she married Lloyd Jay Passey in Magrath, Alberta Canada; their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple February 14, 2016. They were blessed with 2 daughters, Barbara and Renae, and 2 sons, Keith and Richard. In 1952 she and Jay immigrated to the United States. They made their home in Menan, Rigby and Lorenzo, Idaho. In 2011 Carla married Willard A. Nichols, he preceded her in death.
Carla was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She worked at Bass-Hurley Potato Processing for many years and acted as secretary for her husband’s painting business. She earned her C.N.A in 1977 and worked as a home care nurse. Carla enjoyed serving in the community; she served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Rigby Senior Citizens Center, and drove the Meals on Wheels van delivering meals to those in the Jefferson County area. She received an award from the Rigby Chamber of Commerce for her volunteer service to the elderly, and received the State of Idaho Volunteer Award presented by Governor Evans. She enjoyed supporting the Jefferson County Posse and served on the Ladies Axillary. She also served as Secretary of the Upper Valley Cutter Association. She enjoyed quilting and gardening and grew beautiful flowers. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly and was so proud of them; she never missed an opportunity to say “I Love You”.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Dave) Wylie, and Renee Freeman, both of Rigby, Idaho; son, Rick (Tana) Passey of Idaho Falls, Idaho; sister, Zola Sexton of Lethbridge, Alberta brothers, Don (Marion) Gibson of Mt. Vernon, Washington and Vic (Norma) Gibson of Alberta, Canada, 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jay Passey, son, Keith Passey, granddaughter, Krystal Wylie, grandson, Heath Rhodes and great-grandson, Dayson Von Passey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Aspen Hospice: 3470 Washington Park Way, Idaho Falls, ID 83404, or to a local hospice organization of your choice, to carry on Carla’s legacy of helping others.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 17, 2016 at East Rigby Stake Center, with Bishop Michael L. Clark conducting. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, October 16 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
