Carma Ririe Fillmore died peacefully in Idaho Falls Teton Post Acute Care & Rehab Center on Sunday, March 22nd, 2015, aged 83. Carma was born on May 22, 1931 in Ririe, Idaho to James E. and Verna Perry Ririe. She attended Ririe Elementary and Ririe High School and completed her Teaching Degree at Ricks College before teaching school in Shelley, Idaho for two years. She married C. Arlo Fillmore in the Idaho Falls Temple April 16, 1954. They had five children, two of whom died in infancy. They were ‘surrogate’ parents to Sonia Christian and Ben Marks who both lived in their home for several years while in Midway and Rigby.
They lived in Stevensville, Montana; Sylmar, California; and then moved to Midway, Utah where Carma taught school for many years at Central Elementary in Heber City. She was accompanist for the Choralettes women’s chorus for many years, and served in numerous church positions, most often as pianist or organist. In 1973 they moved back to Rigby, Idaho where Carma taught school at Kinghorn Elementary and continued her active involvement in the LDS Church. They spent two years in San Antonio, Texas from 1985 - 1987 to be close to their younger son, Brent, and then moved to Bellingham, Washington where Carma managed apartments and supported her husband who was Bishop of the Bellingham Ward for several years.
They returned to Idaho in 1998. Arlo died in 2003 and then Carma moved to Ammon, before returning to live in Rigby.
She is survived by her daughter, Claris (Tony) O’Kelly, sons Mark (Ellen) and Brent (Vonnie); 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; and her sister Elaine Jackson. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five brothers and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 28th at 1:00 pm at the 12th Ward LDS Chapel, 602 Sundance St. in Rigby, Idaho. The family will have a gathering for family and friends prior to the funeral from 11:30am to 12:30pm. Interment will be at the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel, immediately following the service.
