Carmen Gomez, 73 years old of Rigby, Idaho, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024 at EIRMC.
Carmen was born on June 16th 1951 in Mexico City, Mexico to Melquiades Gomez Nieto and Elvira Resendiz Ojeda. She was the oldest of five children. She went to school in Mexico and at the age of 28 she came to the United States to work and help support her mother. She worked as a potato sorter in Ellsworth Produce, Ball Brothers, and for more than 27 years in Taylor Produce. For 45 years she lived in the state of Idaho, when she first arrived, she lived in Lewisville and for the majority of her life she lived in Rigby.
She was a devout Catholic and was a member of the Saint John Paul II Parish in Idaho Falls. For many of her earlier years as a member she served the church by washing and ironing the purificators and corporal linens and by being a Eucharistic Minister in the San Antonio church in Roberts. Carmen was very devout in praying her rosary on a daily basis, she loved to listen to music, do wordsearch puzzles, and listen to videos about the Catholic faith. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, son-in-law, and her daughter. She had an infectious laugh and constantly wore a smile.
She is survived by her only daughter Lorena (Miguel) Reyes of Rigby, and her three grandchildren Ruth, Isaac, and Ezequiel Reyes. She is preceded in death by her granddaughter Rebecca Hadassah Reyes and her parents.
A rosary will be held on Thursday, December 19th at 6:00 p.m. at Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby, Idaho (101 West Main Street, Rigby), with a visitation to follow. A mass will take place on Friday, December 20th, at 10:30 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, (905 South Lee, Idaho Falls, Idaho). Burial will be in Rigby Pioneer Cemetery in Rigby, Idaho.
