Carol Margaret McCandless 83, of Rigby, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2016 in Boise, Idaho. Carol was born April 16, 1933 in Ephraim, Utah to Glen Franklin and Alta LaRue Rasmussen Nielson. Carol graduated Ephraim High School, attended Snow College, and graduated Utah State University in 1955. Carol married Roy James McCandless on July 4, 1959 in St. Anthony. The couple went on to have Dana Roy in 1960 and Drew Glen in 1967. Carol often took her boys fishing, and really enjoyed attending the boys’ sporting events. Carol was employed by the University of Idaho as Extension Educator for Jefferson County from 1955 - 1990, also serving as Jefferson County 4-H Coordinator during that same period. Carol thoroughly enjoyed her career, making friends wherever she went. Carol counted numerous dogs as constant companions, and enjoyed reading, sewing, and gardening. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy, infant son David, and sister Norma Nielson Howard. Carol is survived by son Dana (Mabel Robin Blackeagle) of Kamiah; son Drew (Julie) McCandless and grandchildren Royce and Olivia of Boise; brother Frank (Dorothy) Nielson of Washington, Utah; and sister Kaye Dean Nielson Martin of Tremonton, Utah; as well as many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Cascade Lake 4-H Camp 217 W Georgia Ave., Suite 100; Nampa, ID 83686. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby.
