Listen to Obituary

With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Carolynn Marie Freeman, who departed this world on April 29, 2026, at the age of 84. She was born on October 4, 1941, in the quaint town of Thornton, Idaho, to Dean and Clea Freeman, who instilled in her a deep sense of family and community that she carried throughout her life.

Carolynn’s life was a tapestry woven with love, resilience, and warmth. She was preceded in death by her cherished parents, her sister Linda Flayor, and her brother Terry Freeman. Her spirit is carried on by her devoted sons, Rodney Ferguson of Idaho, Scott Ferguson of Montana, Eric Elliott of Rexburg, Idaho, Nathan Elliott of Florida, Jeff Elliott of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and James Elliott of West Virginia. She also leaves behind her beloved brothers, Dick Freeman and Mike Freeman, both of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Her legacy continues through her nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.

Carolynn attended Madison High School, graduating in 1958, and embarked on a fulfilling career with Basic American Foods in Rexburg. Her dedication to her work was paralleled only by her commitment to the friendships she formed along the way. Her career in various food service industries was marked by a steadfast work ethic and the joy she found in contributing to her community.

She was an active member of the 14th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ in Rexburg, where she found solace and connection. Her faith was an integral part of her life, providing her strength and guidance, and she cherished the fellowship and shared values of her church community.

Carolynn’s life was rich with simple pleasures and hobbies that brought her great joy. She found immense satisfaction in crocheting blankets and sewing, creating beautiful keepsakes for her family. She loved the thrill of shooting guns with her sons, a testament to her adventurous spirit. Her heart was most at peace amongst nature, whether she was diving into the mountains, exploring state and national parks, or picking huckleberries, she relished every moment spent in the great outdoors.

Carolynn’s life was marked by love and loss, having married David Ferguson on August 1, 1962, with whom she shared cherished years before parting ways. She later married Raymond Van Elliott, and though their paths eventually diverged, the bonds of family remained strong.

A service to celebrate Carolynn’s life will be held on May 6, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the 14th Ward Church of Jesus Christ, located at 590 Summerwood Drive, Rexburg, Idaho. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Rigby Lake Memorial Care for their exceptional service and dedication during Carolynn’s final days.

Carolynn Marie Freeman will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her laughter, and her enduring spirit. She touched the lives of all who knew her, and her memory will forever be a guiding light for those she leaves behind.
