Cecil Calkins Allen, 86, of Terreton, Idaho died Thursday February 26, 2004 in Idaho Falls, Idaho at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Cecil was born July 1, 1917 in Grace, Idaho the son of Lorenzo P. Allen and Mary Ellen Calkins Allen. He was a member of the LDS Church.
Cecil attended schools in Grace, Idaho and graduated from Rupert High School. He farmed in the Terreton area and was part owner in Allen’s Greenhouse. He was an advocate of Soil Conservation and had planted thousands of trees around the Mud Lake area. He was known for Cecil’s Forest, a beautiful park like area behind his home. He was Mud Lake Soil Conservation Farmer of the year in 1992.
Cecil was one of the founders of the West Jefferson Senior Citizens Center and had received the West Jefferson Lions Club Community Appreciation Award in 1997. In 1988 he served as Grand Marshall of the Mud Lake Fair Parade.
He loved fly fishing especially at Birch Creek.
Cecil is survived by his wife Florence Irene Allen of Terreton, Idaho. His daughters, Carol Ann (Robert) Engel of Pocatello, Idaho and Patricia Gwen (Lynn) Jackman of Pocatello, Idaho. A son, Robert Michael Allen of Terreton, Idaho. His sisters, Vilate Nielsen of Rupert, Idaho, Anna Rae (Russell) Poppleton of Wellsville, Utah, Alice (Stuart) Spackman of Heyburn, Idaho and Coleen Allen of Albion, Idaho. Two brothers, Marion C. (Bessie) Allen of St. Anthony, Idaho and Lorenzo C. (Isabel) Allen of Declo, Idaho. Eight grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Louis Allen and Randall Allen, two sisters, Iris Okelberry and Lois Smith, two great grandchildren, Tommy and Brittany Cowgill.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the Eckersell Memorial Chapel (101 W. Main, Rigby, Idaho). The family will meet with friends at Eckersell Memorial Chapel on Tuesday prior to services from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery in Idaho Falls, Idaho following services. eckersellfuneralhome.com
