Cecil Gasser Gerard, 72, of Basalt, Idaho died Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at her home. Cecil was born May 5, 1932 in Driggs, Idaho the daughter of Golden John Gasser and Lois Engberson Gasser. She attended schools in Driggs and graduated from Teton High School in 1950 as the Valedictorian. She attended Girl’s State and served as Govenor and was an Idaho Representative at Girl’s Nation. She married James H. Gerard in Terreton, Idaho on September 3, 1952. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in November of 1963. She attended The University of Idaho earning a Bachelors Degree in Home Economics and was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She worked as a bookkeeper for Terreton Implement Company for ten years and taught school in Terreton, Idaho for twenty years. After retirement in 1994, she moved with her husband to Basalt, Idaho. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints she served in the Primary as a Primary President and Stake Primary President, in the Relief Society Presidency, as a Stake Missionary with her husband, taught Sunday School and Relief Society and a Temple Visitors Center Mission. She enjoyed her family and her flower garden. She is survived by her husband, James H. Gerard of Basalt, daughter, Sheila (Jeff) Kibler of Firth, five sons, James Clyde Gerard of Pocatello, Jack Noel (Claudette) Gerard of Great Falls, Virginia, Jeffery Golden (Suzanne) Gerard of Murtaugh, Idaho and Jerald Sampson (Melanie) Gerard of Meza, Arizona. A sister, Roene (Reese) Chambers of Driggs, Idaho and a brother, Vern Eudean (Linda) Gasser of Phoenix, Arizona. Twenty-eight grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one daughter, three grandchildren and a daughter-in-law. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 18, 2004 in the Firth Stake Center (133 South Main Street) in Basalt, Idaho at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Samuel Walker officiating. The family will meet with friends at Eckersell Memorial Chapel (101 W. Main, Rigby, Idaho) on Sunday, October 17, 2004 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and on Monday, October 18, 2004 at the Firth Stake Center in Basalt from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
