Charlene Dee Herring, 84 of Menan, Idaho, passed away Friday, September 25, 2020 at EIRMC in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Charlene was born in Omaha, Nebraska, December 19, 1935 to Charles Elroy Anderson and Mazie Eola Rickard Anderson; their only child. The family then moved to Sioux City, Iowa where she was raised and attended East High School. She was a good student, and enjoyed playing in band; they won many contests and even attended the Republican Convention in 1953. It was during high school that she met her husband to be, James Lee Herring; they were married in January 1954, in Sioux City and were blessed with one daughter; Roxanne. They were polar opposites, Charlene was conservative while Jim was the wild child of his family, undoubtedly contributing to their 60 plus years of marriage. In 1958 the family followed Jim’s parents, Chuck and Bessie Herring to California, initially landing in El Monte and shortly after, moving to Downey to be closer to family. Charlene’s mother joined them after the death of her husband in 1965. The family lived there until 1972, when Roxanne graduated from high school. Whitter, California would be their next home until 2004 when they moved to Menan, Idaho; a place they both loved. Not only did they love their home, but they loved the people.
Charlene was a member of the Lutheran Church. She worked for Sabena Airlines for 32 years and enjoyed every minute of it. She and Jim traveled extensively all over the world and made many long and endearing friends. She also had a few hobbies over the years, such as tole painting, crocheting, stained glass and especially enjoyed reading.
She is survived by her daughter, Roxanne Lee Nicholas of Rigby, Idaho; grandsons, Bill and Chris Nicholas, and great-granddaughters, Elexis and Allison Nicholas.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
