Charles Howard Henry

Charles Howard Henry, 90, of Rigby, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. He was born June 20, 1920, in Rigby, Idaho to Edward Joshua Henry and Nora Jane Cole Henry. He was raised and attended schools in Rigby, graduating from Rigby High School. He continued his education at Utah State University and received a Masters Degree in Agronomy and Horticulture. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre, and was awarded the Bronze Star. On March 9, 1949, he married Rose Campbell in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Charles was a teacher at Jefferson School District 251 for more than 30 years, teaching Science, English, Speech, Drama, Reading, and Library. He also farmed in the Rigby area throughout his life. Charles was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he served as a Seventy, Counselor in the Bishopric, High Priest Group Leader, Sunday School organization, High Counselor, in the Idaho Falls Temple Baptistry, and Visitors Center. He served in the North Carolina, Charlotte Mission, along with his wife, Rose. He loved family history and was a ward greeter for 25 years. He was active in scouting earning the Eagle and Silver Beaver Awards. He was active in the V.F.W. and helped install the flag pole in the city of Rigby, and was instrumental in establishing the skate park in Rigby. Charles loved to garden and won many ribbons at the Jefferson County Fair and the Eastern Idaho State Fair. Above all, he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He is survived by his wife, Rose, of Rigby; daughters, Rachel (Guy) Parker, of Layton, Utah, Rosanne Henry, of Rigby, Esther Henry, of Rigby; sons, Charles H. (Judy) Henry Jr., of Rigby, John L. (Mary) Henry, of Roy, Utah; sisters-in-law, Ruth C. Peterson, of Rigby, Lois T. Campbell, of Kaysville, Utah; brother-in-law, Bud L. (Joyce) Strupp, of Rigby; 23 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Cleora Jane Henry, Ruth Maria Henry Millet, and brothers, Ellis Edward Henry, Merrell Cole Henry. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the Rigby Idaho South Stake Center, 106 N. 3800 E., Rigby with Bishop George Olaveson, conducting. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Friday evening at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street, Rigby, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services on Saturday. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
