Charles Meng 86, of Rigby died Monday, January 17, 2005.
Charles was born December 22, 1918 in Burton, Idaho a son of Karl Friedrich Meng and Marie Alene Schleifer Meng. He was raised and attended school in Burton and graduated from Madison High School. He attended carpentry school in Weiser, Idaho. Charles married Evelyn Margaret Doney on January 2, 1941 in Rexburg, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls L.D.S. Temple on February 20, 1952. Charles was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as counselor in bishoprics, taught in the sunday school and was the sunday school president, young men’s president, and served in the Elders Quorum. Charles served a welfare mission with his wife in Idaho Falls. Charles served on the Rigby City planning and zoning committee and the city council. He joined the Army during WWII and served in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1004 in Rigby and the American Legion. He owned Meng Construction company and worked as a carpenter throughout the valley with his sons. Charles loved his family, wood working, hunting, fishing, camping, and going to the cabin at Henry’s Lake.
Survivors include two daughters Charlotte (Ron) Davis of Salt Lake City, Utah, Kathy (Randy) Hayes of Pocatello, four sons, Karl (Marie) Meng, C. Danny (Raylene) Meng, Philip (Robyn) Meng, and Mitchell (MaLinda) Meng all of Rigby. He had 39 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four sisters, four brothers, and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held on January 21, 2005 at the Rigby 3rd Ward Chapel (364 North 4100 East) at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Bryon Summers conducting. The family will meet with friends on Thursday January 20 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. and prior to the service on Friday from 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m., both at the church. Burial will follow the services at the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. Military rites will be performed by the Jefferson Veterans Team.
