Clara Ray Wing

April 29, 1922 — April 18, 2020

Clara Ray Wing 97 of Salmon, Idaho passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020. She was born on April 29, 1922 to William Pickle and Mary Self Edgmon.  She was one of eleven children born at home in Jonesboro, Arkansas.  When she was 18 years old, she traveled out west to Long Beach with her brother Franklyn to work in the shipyards. When she was 20 she went to Hawthorn Nevada to work in the ammunition depo building ammo for WW2. This is where she met her first husband Raymond Ray; they were married in Hawthorn, Dec 11, 1942.  To this union a baby girl, Carolyn was born on Sept 14, 1945 but passed away the next day. Seven years later on Dec 8 1952, a son Gary Lyn was born. She traveled to Gilbert Arizona to deliver him and it is said that he was two weeks old before she woke up from anesthesia.  They moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho and bought a small farm where she lived and enjoyed for many years.  She and Ray later divorced. She was a cocktail waitress at the Stardust lounge for over 35 years where she met many of her lifelong friends. She took up golf and this became her passion. She spent many hours on the course and went on to win the Idaho women’s state golf tournament.

On the course is where she met the love of her life, Leroy Wing. They were married on March 3, 1995. They loved to travel playing golf all over Idaho, Arizona, Utah, and even Mexico. They met many people along the way. Leroy passed away at home with her in 2018. They bought a home in Salome, Arizona where they spent lots of winters. She truly loved Arizona and the sunshine. Every year they took an annual trip to Oregon to visit all her family, stopping to see all her sisters and brothers on the way. She loved the coast and the drive there. She and Leroy tried to pass on their love and passion of golf to all their grand kids. She golfed right up to her early nineties. She loved her grandkids, great grandkids, and great-great grandkids dearly. She always said she was lucky to live to see five generations be born. She loved to crochet and make doilies, afghans and made many in her lifetime. As they got older they moved to Salmon to be closer to family. She was lucky enough to live at home with wonderful care givers right up to her last breath. She lived a long active life and passed just a few weeks shy of her 98 th birthday. She will be missed by many.

She is survived by her son Gary of Salmon, Grandchildren Michele (Scott) Tanner, Doug (Barb) Ray, Amy (Paul) Younger, Calvin (Shel) Hall, ten great grandchildren Morgin (Connor) Lenz, Courtnee (Kyler) Bowen, Baylea (Jakob), Stanley and Devin Younger, Tanner Dopson, Pressley Ray, and Anthony and Travon Hall, and three great grandchildren; and three sisters, Ardeth, Lois, and Loretta.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leroy Wing, a daughter, Carolyn, daughter-in-law, Cindy Ray, her brothers Leo, Vern, Ray, Clyde, and Franklyn. Sisters, Pearly and Fay and a great grandson, Taylor Dopson.
