Clarence "Smitty" Smith

October 24, 1921 — February 13, 2008

Clarence M. “Smitty” Smith, age 86, died at his home near Rigby, Wednesday February 13, 2008 due to incident of age. “Smitty” was born October 24, 1921 in Williston, North Dakota to Ernest and Carrie Kreiger Smith. The family came to Filer and then later Roberts. He attended school there. In his early teens the family moved to California. Clarence disliked California and moved back to Roberts to live with his sister, Violet Polson. In a few years he joined the Army and served six years during WWII, with the 3rd Army Battalion and went with General Patton and the relief forces to the Battle of the Bulge. He was wounded in action in France and awarded a Purple Heart and also earned a Silver Star. After the war he moved to Idaho Falls where he met and married his wife, Glena Roseborough on October 24, 1946, in Dillon, Montana. He was very proud of his 50 years as a Journeyman Carpenter with the Carpenters Union Local # 808. He worked for many of the major contractors and participated in the building of many of the area schools, and commercial buildings. He loved fishing, hunting and reading a good book. His survivors include his wife Glena Smith, a daughter, Karol (Keith) Getsinger, both of Rigby, Grandson Jeffery (Mimi) Smith of Pocatello, two great granddaughters, Alyssa and Claire Smith, two sisters, Irene Studer of Redding, California and Verna (John) Adler, of Big Bear City, California. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. “Smitty”, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, and uncle dud will be missed. At Smittys request, there will be no services.
