Clinton George Galbraith

Clinton George Galbraith, age 89, of Rigby, passed away of natural causes at his home Friday, October 30, 2015, surrounded by his family. Clinton was born May 21, 1926 in Lyman, Idaho to John Herbert Galbraith and Ida Mae Barber Galbraith. He was the fifth of seven children. Clinton attended school in the old rock school in Lyman, where there were eight grades. He went to high school in Rexburg until World War II. He grew up on a farm, where he developed a love of animals and was especially passionate about horses, a love that he maintained the rest of his life. He owned and rode horses, until he was no longer able to ride. During World War II, his family moved to Tacoma, Washington, where his dad worked in the ship yards. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 where he served on the battleships, USS South Dakota, USS Missouri and USS Wisconsin. He saw action in the Pacific and was aboard the USS Missouri when the peace treaty with Japan was signed. After the war, he finished high school at Stadium High in Tacoma. Soon after that his family returned to the farm in Lyman. He married Dorothy DeLayne Bates, January 23, 1948 in Rigby, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple November 23, 1965. They were married 67 years at the time of his death. After being married they moved to New Plymouth, Idaho where two children were born. He worked on a dairy farm there to support his growing family. They settled in Lyman where six more children were added to the family. Over the years, he maintained a farm in Lyman, developed a dairy and worked for local farmers, also at different times worked at, Montana Lumber in Rexburg, Ida Best in Lewisville, Pro Ida in Ririe, Madison High School, Ricks College, Madison Memorial Hospital and for several years during the summer months he ran the Horse Concession, providing guest rides at Harriman State Park. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Rigby, 7 children DeLayne (Dennis) Keith of Yuma, Arizona, DaNita Griffin of Rigby, Clint (Janeene) of Rexburg, Shawna (Mark) Hirschi of Rexburg, Alan (Shari) of Falkland, British Columbia, Canada, Susan Rasmussen (Randy Foy) of Clinton, Utah, Bryce (Laurie) of Rigby, a brother Garold (Helen) of Provo, Utah, and two sisters Mae Geisler of Pocatello and LaRue Palmer of Menan, 38 grandchildren, 73 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son George Mitchell, sons-in-law Neal Rasmussen, Norman Griffin and Tom Adams, a sister Della Merrill and brothers LeRoy and Dorald. Funeral services will be Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel 101 West Main Street, Rigby. The family will visit with friends Wednesday evening, from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery, Archer, Idaho.
