D. Arnold Hunter, age 89, died Saturday, February 18, 2006 at his home in Rigby, Idaho. Arnold was born October 11, 1916 in Rexburg, Idaho the son of Edward Laurence Hunter and Verla Stowell Hunter. He attended schools in Rupert, and Lewisville, Idaho and graduated from Midway High School. He attended Idaho State University. He farmed with his family in Lewisville. He married Ruth Brinton November 4, 1938 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. She preceded him in death in 1946. He married Merle Edith Johnson April 1, 1948 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She preceded him in death in 1997.
He worked for a short time for Geneva Steele as a carpenter while married to Ruth. He lived in Lewisville where he farmed and raised sheep, and was a member of the Sheep Growers Association. In 1958 he was named Grassman of the Year in Jefferson County. In 1960 he moved his family to Hibbard, Idaho where he farmed. He later moved to Rexburg where he worked at the Lincoln and Kennedy Elementary Schools as a custodian. Arnold was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served in a variety of callings including, scout leader, Sunday School Superintendent, and financial clerk at Ricks College, and in his home ward. He was a veil worker at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, and was a High Priest.
Arnold was an avid musician, and played the saxophone for several dance bands in the area. He was a member of the Lewisville and Rigby Quartets as a baritone.
He enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, landscaping and always left everything better than he found it.
He is survived by two daughters, Irene (Craig Richard) Eggenberger of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Bonnie (L. Carl) Hanson of Rupert, Idaho. One son, Guy L. (Debbie) Hunter of Rigby, Idaho and one sister, Lola H. Reed of LaBelle, Idaho. Sixteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ruth, and their son, Jay Dee Hunter; his second wife Merle, one granddaughter, and one a great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 25, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rigby LDS Stake Center, 258 West 1st North, with Bishop Brad Anderson officiating. The family will meet friends at the Rigby Stake Center, Friday, February 24, 2006, 7:00 p.m to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Funeral Home.
