Wanda “Darlene” McMurtrey Selman, 70, of Lewisville, ID, passed away on October 15, 2011 while surrounded by her family.
Darlene was born on August 9, 1941 in Ririe, Idaho to James Ephraim McMurtrey and Wanda Wheeler McMurtrey. She was the second of two children and grew up in Ririe, Idaho. She attended grade school and graduated high school in Ririe surrounded by cousins and friends.
Darlene married Leo V. Selman on March 24, 1967 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were later blessed with two wonderful children, Scott and Sheryl. Leo and Darlene lived in Lewisville their entire marriage and raised their children there.
Darlene worked at AEC, Ball Brother Produce and Alcoholic Rehabilitation as a secretary until she retired. She was currently working at the Lewisville Library part time, a job she loved. Darlene also rode in the Lady Larkspurs for over ten years and rode as the Drill Mistress for two years. She was a great horseman and enjoyed many trail rides with her husband and kids. She loved to read, loved to crochet, and most of all loved to spend time with her husband, children and grandchildren. Darlene spent a large amount of her time chasing grandkids at tennis, baseball, football, fast pitch softball, scouting and dance.
Darlene was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served a LDS mission in the Spanish-American mission in Texas, which was a Spanish speaking mission. She had several church callings such as young Womens President, Primary President, Relief Society counselor, librarian, Sunday school teacher and primary teacher and recently taught the Temple Preparation class with her husband. She was also an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
She was survived by her husband, Leo, of 44 years, her brother, Arnold “Eph” McMurtrey, of Rigby, her son, Scott, (Emily) Selman, of Lewisville. Her daughter, Sheryl (Todd) Trejo, of Idaho Falls, and her 8 grandchildren that she adored, Colton Selman, Tristan Selman, Matthew Selman, Madysen Selman, Jonathan Trejo, Sage Trejo, Sierra Trejo, and McKenna Trejo.
She was preceded in death by her father James Ephraim McMurtrey and mother Wanda Wheeler McMurtrey.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the Lewisville 1st Ward Chapel, with Bishop Val Rosenberg, conducting. The family will meet with friends and family Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
