David Jacob Burgener, 93, of Rexburg, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at his home.
He was born January 8, 1916, in Midway, Utah, to John Burgener, and Clara Durtchi Burgener. In 1919, the family moved to Darby, Idaho in Teton Valley where he attended first grade. After his fathers death in 1927 the family moved to Provo, Utah. He finished his schooling in Pleasant View and Lindon.
In 1940 he married Orba Woolstenhulme, they were later divorced. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on March 26, 1945; he was honorably discharged March 7, 1946 as a Motor Machinist Mate 3rd class. On October 2, 1959 he married Enid Clay in Heber, Utah. He owned and operated a garage in Driggs. In 1963 he sold the garage and began working for the school district where he was employed for 33 years.
David was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dave loved to fish, camp, dance and ride horses.
He is survived by his wife, Enid, of Rexburg, a daughter, Betty (Gary) Wilson, of Idaho Falls, sons, Noris (Kathleen) Burgener, of Idaho Falls, Tom (Rose) Burgener, of Roberts, a step-son, Brent Ashcroft, of Idaho Falls, a sister, Lily McQuivey, of American Fork, UT, brothers, Nephi (Elna) Burgener, of Pleasant Grove, UT, Melvin (Patricia) Burgener, of St. George, UT, 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 4 great great-grandchildren, and numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, 3 brothers, a son, Terry Burgener, a grandson, David and a great granddaughter, Amber.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at the Archer LDS Chapel. The family will visit with friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street, Rigby, and from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, prior to services at the Church. Burial will be in the Victor Cemetery, under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
