David Don Burtenshaw, 62, passed away at home in his sleep in the early morning of June 3, 2026.
David was born on April 4, 1964, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was the seventh of eight children born to Don and Beverly Burtenshaw. He was brought up in Mud Lake, Idaho where he grew up learning to love the family business of farming and raising cattle. He attended Terreton Elementary and later graduated from West Jefferson High School in 1982.
Following graduation, David served a Spanish speaking mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Mexico. Upon returning from his mission, he met the love of his life, Holly Coleman. Together, they studied at Ricks College (BYU-Idaho) and married in the Idaho Falls Temple on December 30, 1986. Immediately following graduation at Ricks College, David and Holly moved to Mud Lake, Idaho, to begin a life of their own. They started farming and trading cattle which has grown into their family business.
David and Holly were blessed with three children, Abbie, Bowdry, and Tyrel. It was important to them that their children be raised learning to farm and ranch just as David had been. Although farm and cattle were a significant part of life, David also enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with his family. Hunting, fishing, roping, and golfing are a few of the many things that he appreciated doing given the opportunity.
David is survived by his wife, Holly; his children: Abbie (Kelby) of Aledo, Texas, Bowdry (Brindi) of Saint Anthony, Idaho, and Tyrel (Bailee) of Terreton, Idaho; his siblings: Lynn (Kaylene), Van (Joni), Sharon, Lee (Lori), all of Terreton, Idaho, and Annette (Mitch) of Osgood, Idaho; and his grandchildren: Eastyn, Brea, Billie, Tel, Aria, and Bonnie.
He is preceded into death by his parents, Don and Beverly and his brothers, Mike and Steve.
Funeral services will be held at the Terreton Stake Center, 1297 E 1500 N, Terreton, on Monday, June 8 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation with the family will be at the Terreton Stake Center on Sunday, June 7 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and prior to the service on Monday, June 8 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be held at the West Jefferson Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Funeral Home.
