David Ken Johnson, 65, passed away Friday, October 16, 2026, in Rexburg, Idaho. Ken was born December 29, 1960, in Driggs, Idaho, the son of LaVell H and Gloy DeeNee Shiers Johnson.
Ken attended schools in Teton Valley. In elementary school he attended part day in a standard class and the second part with a special needs class. He faced many challenges throughout his life, having a patient, kind and generous heart. He worked hard to be loved and accepted.
Ken lived for a time in Idaho Falls, Idaho working at the Developmental Workshop learning skills to be self-reliant. Ken loved to drive around. If he couldn’t drive, he would be out walking. He loved to visit the coffee shops near him, especially if they would give him free coffee. He had his own pickup which he took good care of, being responsible for getting it serviced and maintaining the tires.
Ken helped to run his family’s ranch in Victor, running different machinery and equipment. He liked driving “His” tractor, (Not his brother’s) while helping with the plowing, discing, and running the swother. He also worked at the Gateway Stinker Gas Station and the Burger King in Driggs.
Ken lived 29 years at the Calderwood Assisted Living in Victor, and later at the Homestead Assisted Living in St. Anthony and Rexburg, Idaho. A short time ago a group of young women came to sing at the Homestead. They sang, “I Am a Child of God” and Ken joined in. Music was a calming thing to him. As a child he sang “Home on the Range”, at his elementary school performance displaying a beautiful voice. It was said that everyone, even the little children, went quiet as he sang. He loved music and knew the words to all the songs.
Ken was deeply loved by his family. He was such a loving and kind person. We will miss him.
Ken is survived by his siblings; Steven (Susan) Johnson of Leadore, Idaho, Sheila Johnson of Twin Falls, Idaho, Gayle Williams of Howe, Idaho, and a stepmom, Elaine Johnson of Driggs, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Pine D Johnson.
