David Joseph Ball

David Joseph Ball, age 63 of Rigby, died at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, Saturday, October 14, 2006. David was born January 23, 1943, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the son of Leland Walker Ball, and Elva Pearl Jackson Ball. David grew up and attended grade school in Lewisville, Idaho. He attended Midway Junior High School and graduated from Rigby High School, where he lettered in football. He attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah on a football scholarship. He graduated with a degree in Ag – Economics. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission to the Alaska – Canadian Mission from 1962 – 1964. He served on the Rigby Stake High Council, and in the Rigby Stake Sunday School Presidency. He served as Bishop of the Ricks College 20th Ward. He had been active in Scouting and earned the Eagle Rank, and Duty to God Award. He taught seminary for one year in Park City, and Heber, Utah. David married Carolyn Salmon May 24, 1968 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They were later divorced. He farmed in the Lewisville – Rigby area all his life, and received the Farmer of the Year Award in 1986 from the Idaho Falls Kiwanis Club. He sold and distributed Powder River equipment for several years. He was an avid Brigham Young University football fan. He enjoyed sports, poetry, music, and wild flowers. He was a John Deere collector and enthusiast. He is survived by four daughters. Brenda (Chris) Taylor of Tucson, Arizona; Beckie (Max) Wolf Jr. of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Belinda (Kyle) Miller of Star, Idaho, and Bobbi (Kris) Kirkham of Ucon, Idaho. He is survived by one sister Barbara (Dee) Raymond of Lewisville, Idaho. Three brothers, Wade (Dorothy) Ball of Lewisville, Idaho; Richard (Myrna) Ball of Menan, Idaho; and Stephen (Derra) Ball of Idaho Falls, Idaho. He is survived by 7 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son David Bret Ball, and his Parents. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lewisville 2nd ward L.D.S. Chapel. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, and Wednesday 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. prior to service. Burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
