David C Messerli

November 24, 1942 — March 20, 2025

David C Messerli, 82, of Shelley, Idaho passed away in Boise, Idaho on March 20, 2025.  He was born November 24, 1942, in Claresholm, Alberta, Canada the son of Henry Albert Messerli and Alta Blanche Brown Messerli.

After a year of school in Canada, the family moved to Plano, Idaho attending schools in Sugar City, Idaho and graduating from West Jefferson High School in Terreton, Idaho. Following school, he joined the United States Army National Guard in Rexburg, Idaho. While serving he met his first wife, Ruby Haffaker. They were married in Oakland, California. Ruby had three daughters, Hanna, Mary, and Shirley. Together they had two sons, David and John. They later divorced.

For many years he drove trucks for Albertson’s Food Stores. After moving back to Idaho, he drove truck for Andrus Trucking, then construction at the INL. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. He retired from the INL then worked part time with various farmers. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He married Kathleen Marshall of Pocatello, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. She preceded him in death on July 4, 2015. He later met Marlene Miller Stoddard, and they were married in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 15, 2016. They lived in Terreton, Idaho and then moved to Shelley, Idaho to be closer to doctors because of his declining health.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Kathleen. Two brothers, Gerald Messerli and Larry Messerli.

He is survived by his wife Marlene Messerli of Shelley, Idaho. His sons, David (Linda) Messerli Jr and John Messerli, both of California. Brother, Bob (Ann) Messerli of Terreton, Idaho and two grandsons.

There will be a memorial service on April 26, 2025, at 11:00 am in the Terreton LDS Stake Center. (1297 East 1500 North, Terreton, ID).  Interment will be in the West Jefferson Cemetery in Terreton, Idaho.
